Sorry for this little flaw in your marvellous product:

i can't start the last version under Win98 SE 196K.
Page fault module SUNEIDO.EXE at 017f:0042a9e7.

Even after disconnecting Internet, closing antivirus,
restarting the PC etc.

Last version of OpenOffice works fine, like Opera & others. The system is kept up to date and free of malware.

I guess a previous version would work, is it still possible to unload them ?

Hi Francis,

The latest version of suneido.exe contains some changes to memory management and garbage collection. It may be possible that these changes are not compatible with Windows 98. Unfortunately, I do not have a copy of Windows98 to test on.

You can go back to a previous version of suneido.exe, but you will need to dump with the current exe, restore the old exe, and the load with the old exe (using the -dump and -load options of suneido.exe).

Thanks for your answer Jeff.
So i found back
- Suneido Sept. 1, 2005 Release
- www.suneido.org/ (not .com thus)
which works fine under Win98SE.
(my old Win98 PC is still a backup PC)
Perhaps would the latest release work with a memory > 196K ...
Perhaps should you update the compatibility list
and help redirecting "Win9x users" to the ".ORG" site ?

I found a Windows98 workstation to test on, and I get the same fatal error when I try to run Suneido. I don't think more memory is going to help in this case. I would like to do some more testing, I'm not sure what we are going to do with this issue quite yet. I guess Windows 9x users can revert to the Sept version of the exe for now. You may also have to load in an old version of stdlib from the Sept release as well since I think there were some dependancies between some of the recent changes in stdlib and the new version of suneido.exe. I would recommend doing this only if you run into problems.

Hello,
I tried to run the latest version in a windows Me computer while demonstarting a program and it failed. I do not have windows Me to check in detail. May be you should check the compatibility with Windows ME as well.

I installed Windows 98 SE (using Microsoft Virtual PC) and reproduced the problem.

I'm not sure what caused the problem. It doesn't appear to be the new VC7 build since a VC6 build does the same thing. It also doesn't appear to be the new garbage collection since their test program works under 98.

I'm not sure how much effort to put into this. If it is something minor it would be nice to still run under older Windows. But sooner or later we will have to drop support for 95/98/ME so I do not want to spend a lot of time on this.

I have not received many reports of this problem so I am assuming that it is not a big issue.

I am just now experiencing the same fault with the latest version (... performed an illegal operation ...} upon startup. For your info, here is the header of the detail record of the fault: SUNEIDO caused an invalid page fault in module SUNEIDO.EXE at 017f:0042s9e7

Please don't give up on Win98. A huge number of systems will remain in operation for several years yet.

Thanks
